Hi, my name is Ms Jenni. I am married with a daughter and dog. I got my first (non babysitting) part time job in a daycare center at age 14. I have been working in the child care field forover 30 year now since and have been in this location for over 15 years now. I have a college degree in Early Childhood Education (Child Care Specialist). I am currently a licensed preschool teacher. I have continued my education by taking classes at the college and community level over the last 30 years. I love teaching, but I also love learning. I have been trained in SUID, AHT, Supervising for Safety, First Aid, Infant-Child-Adult CPR, Child Passenger Safety, and Blood Borne Pathogens just to name a few for the state mandated classes taken every year or other year.

Nurturing Curriculum

My preschool program has a "Can Do" curriculum that I designed which creates self-directed, responsible, and caring kids. Weekly lessons are taught with influences of Montessori and Reggio theories (I have been educated in both theories) and play based learning. I believe a mix of these is almost a perfect balance for a preschool age child. Children need the structure that Montessori lessons bring while still feeding their ever-growing curiosity with the play based learning and creativity and play time that Reggio has to offer. I feel it is important to teach children: self-esteem, expression of feeling, empathy to others, perseverance, responsibility, hope (goal setting) and problem-solving abilities - if they think they can't, I want to help them think they can. They can get all this, in addition to still having the comforts that feel like they are at home, and not in a big center.

A child's earliest years include some of the most unique and valuable stages of life. At BBC our most important responsibility is to provide a safe, healthy, nurturing, and responsive setting for your child. BBC is committed to supporting each child's development by recognizing and respecting individual differences and potential. We believe that learning via play is important at this stage of life.

Hours of Operation

Big Box of Crayons (BBC) Family Preschool and Child Care offers full or part time preschool for children 3 years to 5 years old. (Children can come at 2 years old if they have good self help skills and can go up and down stairs on their own.) BBC is a small private in home preschool - not a center. BBC is open Monday to Friday 7AM to 4:30PM. (We close at 4:15Pm on Mondays. And 3PM on Fridays during the summer months.)

Some Covid-19 safety rules still apply when cases are high in the area. We are still in a lower ratio class during this time, but otherwise back to "normal" for the most part. Kids wear masks if they have colds/coughs and have test neg to attend preschool. Families are allowed to request their child wear a mask at any point if they so wish.

Please note that Ms. Jenni can be very busy at times during the day and might not be able to answer questions via the phone when you call. Emails work better because she can come back to it if she is needed in the classroom. Please do not mistake her as being rude, the students in the class come first during the school day. Thank you for understanding.

BBC was nominated for the Family Child Care Provider of the Year Award 3 times before BBC stop being a member of LCCPAC for 6 years. (Membership is required to be nominated). When BBC came back to LCCPAC in 2018 Ms. Jenni was once again nominated and honored as one of 5 providers in April 2019 at their yearly provider dinner. BBC was also nominated for the 2013 Macaroni Kid's Family Choice Award for "Best Preschool or Montessori" along with other local awards.
