Welcome to Big Box of Crayons! Hi, my name is Jenni. I am married with no children, just one very sweet 6 year-old dog. I got my first part time job in a daycare center at age 14. I have been working in the child care field for roughly 18 years. I have a college degree in Early Childhood Education (Child Care Specialist). I am currently a licensed teacher. I have continued my education by taking other classes at the college and community level in the last ten years. I am currently trained in SBS, SIDS, First Aid, CPR, Child Passenger Safety, and Blood Borne Pathogens. I have also worked for more than two years with children with special needs, including but not limited to: Autism, Downs Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and other Learning Disabilities. While my preschool will not focus on these special needs, I would just like to inform parents of the wide range of training I have had over the years.
Nurturing Curriculum My preschool program has a "Can Do" curriculum that I designed. Creating Self-Directed, Responsible, and Caring Kids. Weekly lessons are taught with influences of Montessori and Reggio theories (I have been educated in both theories). I believe a mix of both is almost a perfect balance for a preschool age child. Children need the structure that Montessori lessons bring while still feeding their ever-growing curiosity and creativity that Reggio has to offers during our free play times. I feel it is important to teach children; self-esteem, expression of feeling, empathy to others, perseverance, responsibility, hope (goal setting) and problem-solving abilities - if they think they can't, I want to help them think they can. They can get all this, in addition to still having the comforts that feel like they are at home, and not in a big center.

Providers please stop copying my website as your own. I worked very hard on it and don't like seeing it else where word-for-word (including my errors) just deleting out what you don't offer that I do. That isn't fair to me. You can use it for ideas, but copying pages of it as your own is just stealing. Please stop. Thank you. Copyrighted to Big Box of Crayons Family Preschool & Child Care 2007-2009
JUNE DATE NIGHT The next date night will be Friday June 5th, from 6-10pm. Children can come, hang out, do an art project, have some free play time and watch a movie for $40 for first child, $15 for each additional child in the same family afterwards. It's a way for old friends to play together, and maybe make a few new friends. This will give parents time to get out and get some shopping done, catch a movie, or enjoy a quite dinner somewhere. I am willing to have children for longer hours at a rate of $10 per hour/per family, added on to the date night. BBC serves dinner somewhere between 5-6pm, if you are adding on care. Last day to sign up is Wednesday May 27th, 2009
Here are just a few pictures of what my preschool looks like. I am always moving things around, to whatever works best for the children. There are some areas not shown, but at least you get a good idea. It's really bright in person. My new camera just takes dark pictures of it for some reason. My old one never did. There is a bathroom also on the preschool level.
The Week of the Young Child is April 19-25, 2009 Teacher's Day is the first Tuesday in May every year. Provider's Day is the Friday before Mother's Day every year.
I was nominated for the 2009 Family Child Care Provider of the Year Award in Anoka County. (Please note I can not win until after 2012, when I will have been an Anoka County provider for more then 5 years.) |
